Elevated Folate RBC - Is this something that needs more workup? Could it be from B Complex supplementation?

RBC folate reflects folate intake over the lifespan of the RBC as well as folate stores in the liver. An elevated RBC folate could be a result of robust supplementation. Persistently elevated levels should be investigated further.

Although we are unable to provide clinical guidance or specific recommendations for a clinical case, we would like to confirm that the elevated RBC folate and B12 could likely be due to robust supplementation, which should be evaluated and possibly held until labs can be repeated. RBC folate reflects RBC stores and liver stores (see blog listed below).

It is always best to review past and current labs to identify trends toward or away from dysfunction. In this case, it is important to know the client's history as well as the type, dose, and duration of supplementation. We would like to direct you to our most recent blogs on folate and vitamin B12.
